Isaiah Johnson – Noteworthy
University of Houston standout Isaiah Johnson is hoping to be the next tall Cougars cornerback in the NFL, joining Cincinnati Bengals starter William Jackson. At 6-foot-2, 208 pounds, Johnson is the prototypical big cornerback. He helped his case considerably and boosted his draft stock with a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash Monday morning at the NFL scouting combine. His time tied for third-best among the cornerbacks, also ranking third at his position with an 11-1 broad jump. His 4.06 short shuttle ranked second. His three-cone drill was fifth best with a 6.81 time. And Johnson posted a 36 1/2 inch vertical leap. Johnson ran nearly as fast as Jackson, who had a 4.37 at the combine before going in the first round in 2016.

“Absolutely. William was a great inspiration for me because he set the tone for us,” Johnson said. “He and D.J. Hayden, Howard Wilson, Brandon Wilson all of them kept setting the tone for future DB’s to come. They were long, fast and they were good at what they did just in general with techniques, playing the game, athletic ability. “All of them were really good. Especially William. He set the tone early by going first round making it possible for Houston corners to say, ‘Hey I can do it so you can do it.’ So it was great inspiration for me.” – Houston Chronicle
