Starting linebacker Leonard Pegues will miss the first 1 1/2 games of the 2015 season, which includes the opener on Saturday against Missouri State and the first half of the second game against Kansas.

Defensive tackle Isadore Outing was suspended for the opener. Defensive tackle Chauncey Lanier and offensive linemen Michael Stannard, Trevon Tate and Nick Thomas were suspended for one half each. Lanier is the only starter in that group.

Fuente said the players performed an additional 326 hours of community service, which was more than the 220 hours the university required as part of their penalty.

“The (American Athletic Conference) looked at the video for a long time,” Fuente said. “We looked at it for a long time. We tried to do our best to come up with the appropriate punishments.”

The fight took place after Memphis wrapped up a 55-48 double-overtime victory over BYU on Dec. 22.
