Boston College starting tailback Jon Hilliman had foot surgery on Sunday and will be out for an extended period, Eagles head coach Steve Addazio said Monday.

Hilliman rushed for a season-high 119 yards in Saturday’s 17-14 victory over Northern Illinois before leaving the game with the injury.

Hilliman ran for 880 yards and 13 touchdowns last season, and he led the team in rushing this season with 198 yards in four games.

Junior Tyler Rouse, the team’s second-leading rusher, is expected to get the start on Saturday against Duke.

Boston College is 3-1, its only loss being a 14-0 defeat against Florida State. But injuries are mounting. The Eagles were already without starting quarterback Darius Wade, who was lost for the season to an injury in the Sept. 18 game against Florida State.

Tailbacks Myles Willis and Marcus Outlow both sustained shoulder injuries, and their participation may be limited against Duke.
