Clemson got some good news Monday as the Tigers prepare for their clash with Alabama on Jan. 11 in the College Football Playoff national championship game.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney told reporters that All-American defensive tackle Shaq Lawson should be able to dress and take the field.
Lawson played only two snaps in the Orange Bowl semifinal game against Oklahoma on Thursday before suffering an MCL sprain that kept him on the sideline for the remainder of the game.
“We’ll get him back out there today,” Swinney said during Monday’s media teleconference. “I think the prognosis is good at this point. I’ve very optimistic that he’ll be able to play.”
Lawson leads the Tigers’ defense with 23.5 tackles for loss, including 10.5 sacks. He sacked Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield in the first quarter before leaving the contest.
Lawson, who already has said he will enter the NFL Draft and is ranked as the No. 3 defensive end by NFLdraftscout.com, was named the 2015 ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
