Duke starting quarterback Daniel Jones will return to the lineup for Saturday night’s matchup against visiting Virginia Tech.
The school announced Saturday morning that Jones will be back under center for the No. 22 Blue Devils after missing two games due to a fractured collarbone.
Jones was injured in a game against Northwestern on Sept. 8 and underwent surgery the following day.
Quentin Harris replaced Jones and guided Duke to victories over Baylor and North Carolina Central, throwing for six touchdowns and zero interceptions in his two starts.
Jones, a three-year starter who appeared in 12 games in each of his first two seasons, was 29 of 39 for 389 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in his two starts this year.
Saturday’s matchup marks the ACC opener for the Blue Devils, who are shooting for their first 5-0 record since the 1994 season.
Jones struggled in a 24-3 loss at Virginia Tech last season, finishing 10 of 24 for 82 yards with one interception.
The Blue Devils have won seven games in a row dating to the end of last season for the third-longest winning streak among Power 5 teams behind Ohio State and Penn State.
Virginia Tech (2-1, 1-0 ACC) is 12-2 against Duke since joining the ACC. That includes a 6-0 record in road games in that span.
“Probably the best Duke team we’ve played since I’ve been here,” Fuente said. “We’ve kind of seen this coming. They’ve been a little bit young and they’ve continued to get better and better.”
