PLAYERS TO WATCH

–WR DJ Matthews returned a punt for a touchdown against Miami, providing the only spark on offense or special teams in the second half of the Seminoles’ loss. It was Matthews’ first score of the season, but many Florida State fans have felt Matthews has been ready to break out since last year, and they want to see the ball in his hands more often. They may get their wish against the porous Wake Forest secondary. Matthews is now the team’s fourth-leading receiver with 17 catches for 133 yards.

–QB Deondre Francois rushed a season-high 11 times in the loss to Miami, but he was also sacked a season-high six times. When he was out of the pocket, though, Francois made plays with his feet. Designed runs for Francois may be something you may see more of starting this week against Wake Forest.

–DB Hamsah Nasirildeen led the Seminoles in tackles for the fourth time in six games this season as he continues to enjoy a bust-out season. Nasirildeen now leads the team in tackles with 47, and the next closest person to him is linebacker Donatvious Jackson with 35.

SERIES HISTORY: Florida State leads the series against Wake Forest 29-6-1, including a 26-19 win last season.

QUOTE TO NOTE: “This one’s gonna hurt for us for a while.” — Florida State head coach Willie Taggart, following Florida State’s gut-wrenching loss two weeks ago to Miami, which rallied from a 27-7 second-half deficit to win 28-27
