Yellow Jackets ready for rivalry game with Georgia

Georgia Tech’s seniors played their last home game on Saturday and came through with a 30-27 victory over Virginia on Senior Day. Now they get one more crack at state rival Georgia before learning their destination for a bowl game.

The Yellow Jackets (7-4) are decided underdogs against the No. 5-ranked Bulldogs (10-1), whose next stop is the SEC Championship Game.

“I’m sure we’ve been an underdog in a lot of games,” quarterback TaQuon Marshall said. “I’m sure we were an underdog to Miami last week. I don’t pay a lot of attention to that. We’re just going to get ready.”

Georgia Tech has won its last two games at Georgia’s Sanford Stadium, a fact that didn’t escape seniors Brad Stewart and Jalen Johnson.

“I’ve played there one time and I’m 1-0,” said Stewart, the team’s leading wide receiver. “It was a good feeling tearing those hedges up at the end. So I want to do that again. ? It’s a great place to play at and we’re excited for the opportunity”

“I’m actually 2-0, so I want to stay undefeated there,” added Johnson, an outside linebacker.

The last time Georgia Tech won three straight games at Georgia was from 1950-56, when the Yellow Jackets won four consecutive visits to Athens under legendary coach Bobby Dodd.

While Georgia has developed rivalries that often equal or exceed Georgia Tech (primarily Florida and Auburn), this game is one that divides the state. The winner receives the Governor’s Trophy and gets possession of it for the next year.
