Miami quarterback Cade Weldon, a redshirt sophomore, intends to transfer.

Hurricanes head coach Manny Diaz confirmed the decision in a press release Monday, noting the decision for Weldon to seek a better fit was mutual.

Weldon was suspended for four games last season for a violation of team rules. The Miami Herald reported it was one of multiple “off-field missteps” for Weldon.

“Cade and I talked, and we decided that it was in his best interests to pursue opportunities at another school,” Diaz said. “We wish him all the best in his future plans.”

Weldon, 20, was not a frontrunner for the vacant starting job at Miami.

The son of Florida State 1991 Heisman Trophy runner-up Casey Weldon, Cade Weldon was running behind 2018 part-time starter K’Nosi Perry, redshirt freshman Jarren Williams and Ohio State transfer Tate Martell.
