Former East Carolina quarterback Kurt Benkert confirmed he will enroll at the University of Virginia, where he will have two years of eligibility remaining.

“I’m ready for the next chapter, it’s going to be a great 2 years!” Benkert tweeted Sunday.

Benkert was named ECU’s starter last August, only to sustain a right knee injury that ultimately ended his season. Blake Kemp took over the starting job and went on to pass for 2,658 yards and 16 touchdowns, and the Pirates also have former Rutgers quarterback Philip Nelson among four quarterbacks on their roster.

Since he is scheduled to graduate this spring, Benkert will become immediately eligible for Virginia.

With the Cavaliers, Benkert joins a depth chart that includes returning starter Matt Johns and Connor Brewer, a two-time transfer from Texas and Arizona.
