PLAYERS TO WATCH

–LB Charles Snowden recorded 8.5 tackles, one sack, a fumble recovery and an interception against Louisville and now has 17 tackles on the season. The sophomore has been a key cog in Virginia’s stout defense and will need to continue his hot play against a Wolfpack offense that looks to spread the ball around. Snowden was named the ACC’s Linebacker of the Week for week four.

–K Hunter Pearson replaced a struggling A.J. Mejia Saturday against Louisville and connected on both of his field goal attempts and all three extra points. The freshman made his first appearance in a Virginia uniform and showed that he should be the team’s kicker moving forward. Virginia has struggled in that department over the past few seasons and will look for Pearson to take control of the position.

–WR Joe Reed has gotten off to a slow start this season but found the end zone for the first time Saturday against Louisville. The junior caught two passes for 52 yards including a 44-yard scamper for a touchdown as Perkins has slowly integrated Reed into the Virginia offense.

SERIES HISTORY: N.C. State leads Virginia 34-22-1 with the Cavaliers winning the last matchup 33-6 in 2012.

QUOTE TO NOTE: “Ultimately, we want to be able to maintain and control the tempo of the game, and we really like to control the game period. You can do that by moving the chains, methodically doing so, holding on to the ball. Man, when you start taking it defensively, yeah, that’s a good combination.” — Virginia head coach Bronco Mendenhall.
