Michigan State senior running back LJ Scott, limited to four games this season because of an ankle injury, will redshirt and return next season, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said Saturday.

Dantonio made the announcement after the Spartans’ 26-6 home loss to Ohio State. The coach added that Scott and his family made the decision to return, and that he supported that choice.

Scott is taking advantage of a new NCAA college football rule that allows players to redshirt if they have played in no more than four games and have not previously redshirted.

“You have an opportunity for him to come back, get his degree. He wants to do that and get himself right to play his final season,” Dantonio said at a press conference.

Scott (6 feet 1, 225 points) is rated the fifth-best senior running back prospect according to NFLDraftScout.com. He will enter the 2019 season with 586 carries for 2,771 yards (4.7 per carry) and 25 touchdowns.

–Boston College received a big boost in advance of Saturday night’s matchup against No. 2 Clemson.

Star running back AJ Dillon will be in the lineup for the Eagles in the showdown against the Tigers.

Dillon’s status had been a question mark after he aggravated an ankle injury in last week’s 31-21 victory at Virginia Tech, but Boston College coach Steve Addazio removed any doubts in an interview with ESPN on Saturday morning.

Dillon missed two games because of ankle issues, but still leads the ACC in rushing with 897 yards in seven games for the Eagles.

–Junior Alex Delton started for Kansas State in Saturday’s 21-17 victory over intrastate rival Kansas.

Delton, who was 11-of-17 passing for 126 yards and added 55 yards and a touchdown on the ground, got the nod in place of Skylar Thompson, who was hurt in last week’s 14-13 loss to TCU, according to the Wichita Eagle.

Thompson suffered an undisclosed injury in the first quarter against the Horned Frogs after attempting only two passes.

In seven games this season, Delton has completed 44 of 80 passes for 554 yards with two scores and two picks. Delton, who started the season opener, also has rushed for 234 yards on 85 carries.

–Quarterback Deondre Francois was expected to start for Florida State in Saturday night’s matchup against No. 3 Notre Dame.

Francis missed last week’s loss to North Carolina State because of a concussion but will be good to go against the Fighting Irish, the Tallahassee Democrat reported, citing a source.

Sophomore James Blackman started in place of Francois last weekend and earned ACC Quarterback of the Week honors after throwing for 421 yards and four touchdowns in the 47-28 loss to the Wolfpack.
