The Orange Bowl is moving off New Year’s Day and will be held on Dec. 30 with a prime-time kickoff on a Monday night.
The Orange Bowl will retain its traditional night-game status instead of serving as an early afternoon lead-in to the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. There is no NFL game on Monday, Dec. 30, to compete for viewership with the Orange Bowl, played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
The Orange is one of the New Year’s Six bowls that host the College Football Playoff on a rotating basis. The Peach and Fiesta bowls are the hosts for this season’s semifinals, to be played Dec. 28.
Other big bowls are the Cotton (Dec. 28), Rose (Jan. 1) and Sugar (Jan. 1).
There will be a 15-day break this year between the CFP semifinals and the national title game, to be played in New Orleans on Monday, Jan. 13.
The 2019 Orange Bowl will feature an ACC team against the highest-ranked team from the Big Ten, SEC or Notre Dame.
