Alabama backup quarterback Layne Hatcher will transfer to Arkansas State, according to multiple reports Tuesday.

After serving as the fifth quarterback in the A-Day spring game on Saturday, Hatcher entered his name in the transfer portal two days later.

A three-star recruit in the Class of 2018, he was committed to Arkansas State before making a last-minute decision last spring to attend Alabama.

He redshirted as a freshman in 2018, watching starter Tua Tagovailoa and backups Jalen Hurts and Mac Jones.

Hurts has transferred to Oklahoma, but Tagovailoa and Jones are still with the program, as are incoming freshmen Taulia Tagovailoa and Paul Tyson.
