Junior J.T. Barrett set the school record for career touchdown passes, Mike Weber rushed for 144 yards and No. 2 Ohio State breezed to a 58-0 win over Rutgers in its Big Ten opener Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.

Barrett threw four touchdown passes — all in the first half — including a 5-yard strike to H-back Curtis Samuel with 11 seconds to go before halftime for a 30-0 lead. Barrett, who left late in the third quarter after completing 21 of 29 passes for 238 yards, has 59 career touchdown passes — breaking Bobby Hoying’s record of 57.

Weber helped Ohio State (4-0) pour it on with a 46-yard touchdown run on the opening possession of the second half. The Buckeyes never stopped, scoring on nine consecutive possessions before turning the ball over on downs with 1:17 to go.

No. 13 Baylor 45, Iowa State 42

Baylor erupted for 17 points in the fourth quarter to overtake Iowa State In Ames, Iowa.

Kicker Chris Callahan nailed a 19-yard field goal to give the Bears (5-0) their first lead of the game as time expired.

Baylor quarterback Seth Russell passed for just 178 yards, but rushed for 88 crucial yards in keeping the Bears moving in the second half. Running back Shock Linwood led the Bears with 237 rushing yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.

Iowa State quarterback Joel Lanning passed for 261 yards and rushed for 57 with three total touchdowns.

No. 14 Miami 35, Georgia Tech 21

ATLANTA — A 21-point onslaught within a two-minute span in the second quarter, which included a pair of defensive scores by two prized freshmen, carried Miami over Georgia Tech

The wave of momentum started after the Hurricanes (4-0) went ahead 14-7 on Mark Walton’s 14-yard run with 6:42 left in first half.

On second-and-10 of the next possession, Georgia Tech quarterback Justin Thomas fumbled when taking a vicious blind-sided hit from Trent Harris. Freshman Shaq Quarterman picked up the loose ball and returned it 17 yards for a touchdown with 5:50 left.

Miami’s defense was at it again when Georgia Tech got the ball back. The interior of the Miami defense was all over Thomas, who fumbled the ball. Freshman Joe Jackson grabbed it and ran 18 yards for a score with 5:04 left. The two-minute blitz gave Miami a 28-7 lead.

No. 20 Arkansas 52, Alcorn State 10

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas used a balanced attack to pile up 559 total yards and jumped out to a big lead early to rout Alcorn State.

The Razorbacks (4-1) opened a quick 24-0 lead and then overcame a sluggish second quarter to pull away in the second half.

Arkansas junior quarterback Austin Allen completed 13 of 18 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns, and the Razorbacks had 353 yards rushing. Freshman Devwah Whaley rushed nine times for 135 yards and sophomore Rawleigh Williams III had 126 yards on 13 carries.

Oklahoma State 49, No. 22 Texas 31

STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State finally broke through at home against Texas, posting a wild win. It was the Cowboys’ first win at home over the Longhorns since 1997.

Oklahoma State improved to 3-2, while Texas fell to 2-2. The teams combined for 1,123 yards of offense.

After falling behind 14-0 early, Texas rallied to take a 19-16 lead early in the second quarter. But the Cowboys soon took control, scoring twice before halftime on touchdown passes from quarterback Mason Rudolph to receiver Jalen McCleskey to open a 37-25 advantage before pulling away through the final two quarters.

No. 23 Florida 13, Vanderbilt 6

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Florida’s offense wasn’t very good, but it was just efficient enough for a win over Vanderbilt.

The Gators (4-1) gained just 236 yards of total offense, but 171 of those came on their three scoring drives. Kicker Eddy Pinero booted three field goals, accounting for more than enough for the Gators to post their third victory in a row over Vanderbilt and 25th of the last 26 in the series.

Florida missed an opportunity to put the game away late, when quarterback Austin Appleby fumbled a snap on a second-and-goal play from the Vandy 1. Commodores cornerback Torren McGaster pounced on it at the Vandy 7 with 2:56 left.
