Iowa State running back David Montgomery and Baylor defensive end Greg Roberts will miss the first half of their respective team’s games this weekend after being ejected from last week’s contest.

Montgomery retaliated with a swing after Roberts reached over an official to deliver a punch during the second half of the Cyclones’ 28-14 win over the Bears on Saturday in Ames, Iowa.

Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said the school wouldn’t appeal the Big 12’s punishment.

Montgomery, who is the second-leading rusher in the Big 12, will sit out the first half against Texas this weekend.

“First I would like to apologize to cyclone nation and my team for my actions,” Montgomery wrote on his Twitter account. “Me as a captain should have not reacted the way I did and I sincerely apologize for that!!! But I will defend my brothers no matter what and i stand on that!”

Montgomery has rushed for a team-leading 765 yards and accounted for six of Iowa State’s 10 rushing touchdowns. Kene Nwangwu resides a distant second with 112 rushing yards.

Roberts, who is second on his team in tackles for loss, will miss the first half of Saturday’s game versus TCU.

Baylor coach Matt Rhule said quarterback Charlie Brewer is “good to go” against TCU after being ejected from Saturday’s game for two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, per the Dallas Morning News.
