Quarterback Seth Russell fractured a bone in his neck during No. 2 Baylor’s 45-27 victory over Iowa State on Saturday, leaving his status in doubt until he visits a specialist next week.

The injury was believed at first to be a neck strain but was found to be more serious upon further examination. His return is unknown.

Bears coach Art Briles told ESPN that he expects Russell to be out for a while but will know more after Russell sees the specialist.

Russell passed for 197 yards and two touchdowns against Iowa State in rainy conditions in Waco, Texas, in the Big 12 game, boosting his season totals to 2,104 passing yards and 29 touchdowns with six interceptions.

Baylor has a bye next week. If Russell is sidelined, freshman quarterback Jarrett Stidham is expected to be his replacement.
