Junior Alex Delton will start for Kansas State in Saturday’s matchup against intrastate rival Kansas.

Delton will get the nod in place of Skylar Thompson, who was hurt in last week’s 14-13 loss to TCU, according to the Wichita Eagle.

Thompson suffered an undisclosed injury in the first quarter against the Horned Frogs after attempting only two passes.

Delton replaced him and finished 15 of 25 for 155 yards with one touchdown and zero interceptions. He also was sacked four times.

The 6-foot, 205-pound Delton also scored what appeared to be the tying touchdown on a 1-yard run six minutes into the fourth quarter, only to see the Wildcats missed the extra-point attempt.

In six games this season, Delton has completed 33 of 63 passes for 428 yards with two scores and two picks. Delton, who started the season opener, also has rushed for 179 yards on 69 carries.

Thompson, a sophomore, has thrown for 995 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions in nine games. He has been a dangerous threat on the ground with 360 rushing yards and four scores.

The 6-2, 205-pound Thompson has thrown only one scoring pass over the last six games, although he ran for three of his four TDs in that span.

Kansas State and Kansas entering Saturday’s matchup sporting identical 3-6 overall records and 1-5 marks in Big 12 Conference play.
