Kansas fired head football coach David Beaty on Sunday. Beatty will coach the Jayhawks’ final three games this season.

The Jayhawks (3-6) are coming off a 27-3 home loss on Saturday to Iowa State.

“After a thorough evaluation of the program, I believe that new leadership is necessary for our football team to move forward and compete at the highest level of the Big 12 Conference,” Kansas athletic director Jeff Long said in a statement on Sunday.

In four seasons at Lawrence, Beaty has gone 6-39, including a 2-31 record in Big 12 games. He has one once in 20 road games and is 2-2 against FCS opponents.

“I know that Coach Beaty cares deeply about his players, and I respect that. The student-athletes on this team have continued to play hard — and I am confident they will do that for the rest of the season.”

Long said a search for Beaty’s replacement will begin immediately. Beaty will receive a $3 million buyout, according to multiple reports.
