Oklahoma Sooners coach Lincoln Riley announced that senior linebacker Caleb Kelly and redshirt freshman defensive lineman Jordan Kelley will be out for the foreseeable future with lower-body injuries.

247Sports reported that both players suffered ACL injuries, with Kelley already having undergone surgery and Kelly requiring surgery as well.

“It’s a really tough deal for both Caleb and Jordan,” Riley said in a statement Thursday. “I guess if there’s a silver lining it’s the timing of the injuries with them occurring five months before the season. I know they’ll work their tails off to get back to the field as quickly as possible, and we’ll be there with them every step of the way.”

Kelly is a former five-star recruit who posted 61 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks last season. He recently moved to the weak side, where he had the edge on DaShaun White this spring. White and Levi Draper will now compete for time until Kelly can return.

The Sooners’ other inside linebackers include junior walk-on Bryan Mead and redshirt freshman Brian Asamoah.

Kelley was a three-star recruit who redshirted after playing in two games last season.

Oklahoma’s spring game is scheduled for April 13.
