TCU starting quarterback Shawn Robinson will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, head coach Gary Patterson announced.

Michael Collins, a transfer from Penn who replaced Robinson on Saturday against Oklahoma, will become the starting quarterback for the Horned Frogs (3-4).

Collins helped TCU get back in the game in the first half, but the Sooners dominated the second half in their 52-27 victory over the Horned Frogs.

Robinson, a sophomore, played in all seven games for TCU. He completed 60.8 percent pf his passes for 1,334 yards, nine touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also ran for 230 yards and three scores.

Before being replaced in the loss to Oklahoma, Robinson completed 3 of 8 passes for 21 yards.

Although Robinson was the starter against Oklahoma, it is believed that he injured his shoulder against Iowa State the previous week.

Collins entered Saturday’s game with the Horned Frogs trailing 28-7, but he helped TCU close the gap to 28-24 at halftime. The Horned Frogs managed just three points in the second half, though, as Colins finished the day 7 of 17 for 142 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

For the season, Collins has completed just 41.9 percent of his passes for 247 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He has rushed for 65 yards this season.

Senior Grayson Muehlstein will be the new backup quarterback.

True freshman Justin Rogers has not played in a game this season, and the new redshirt rule would allow him to play four games without losing his redshirt designation.
