PLAYERS TO WATCH

–RB Darius Anderson is by far TCU’s most explosive and dependable playmaker but has tapered off some as his opportunities have been reduced after the Horned Frogs’ loss to Ohio State. He’s become the flash-and-dash runner to Sewo Olonilua’s grind-it-out option. Still Anderson will be leaned on heavily to move the chains if the passing game fails or offensive line falters. But Anderson carried 12 times for 42 yards in TCU’s 17-14 win over Iowa State on Sept. 29; Anderson now has 322 yards and three touchdowns on 49 carries for the season.

–QB Shawn Robinson had just 194 total yards (182 passing and 12 rushing) in the win over Iowa State, and surrendered an interception and fumbled once, continuing a streak of big turnovers. Robinson sustained an injury to his left, non-throwing shoulder in the final minutes against Iowa State. If Robinson doesn’t start, backup Michael Collins will get the nod.

–LB Ty Summers needs just 48 tackles to become the all-time tackling leader in the Gary Patterson era. The former high school quarterback has position flexibility, too, playing linebacker and defensive end. Summers ran a 4.55-second 40-yard dash in the spring and has recorded a 36-inch vertical. He has 25 stops, two of them tackles for a loss, two quarterback hurries and a sack through the first five games.

–DE Ben Banogu, a senior, had three tackles in the win over Iowa State and returned a fumble 47 yards for a crucial TD; Banogu now has 11 stops, a forced fumble that led to a TD return, a fumble return for score, a sack and four quarterback hurries for the season.

SERIES HISTORY: Texas Tech leads TCU 31-26-3. Last year’s 27-3 TCU win at Texas Tech saw Shawn Robinson became the only true freshman to start at quarterback in the 18 seasons Gary Patterson has been head coach.

QUOTE TO NOTE: “First off, I don’t really think we have a backup quarterback. I think both of those guys are guys who could start and do well for us. If it’s his time, if he needs to go in there and play, I feel very confident he can go out there and make plays.” — TCU defender Ty Summers on the possibility of backup quarterback Michael Collins starting against Texas Tech on Thursday.
