Texas Tech freshman quarterback Alan Bowman was transported to Lubbock’s Covenant Medical to be evaluated for a recurrence of a partially collapsed lung, the team announced.

Bowman initially sustained the injury against West Virginia on Sept. 29. He reportedly aggravated the injury after being on the receiving end of a hard hit from Oklahoma linebacker Chris Bolton late in the second quarter.

Per head coach Kliff Kingsbury, Bowman was having issues “catching his breath” during warm-ups prior to the start of the second half. In addition, he experienced discomfort in throwing passes with teammates and retreated to the locker room.

“(Bowman is being) evaluated for a recurrence of his previous injury (partially collapsed lung) that occurred in the West Virginia game. He will be held overnight for observation,” a statement from the team read.

Bowman finished 21 of 26 for 227 yards and two touchdowns before exiting the contest. Jett Duffey came on in relief and threw for two touchdowns and ran for another for Texas Tech, which fell to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in Big 12 play after dropping a 51-46 decision to the Sooners.

Duffey or season-opening starter McLane Carter would get the nod next week against Texas should Bowman be unable to play.
