Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman remains under observation after sustaining a partially collapsed lung, coach Kliff Kingsbury said on Monday.
Bowman departed late in the first half of Saturday’s game after being sandwiched by a pair of West Virginia defenders. He did not return to the contest, finishing 9 of 20 for 123 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Kingsbury said that Bowman did not sustain any broken ribs, which could aid in the speed of his recovery.
“So we avoided some things there. I think without the broken ribs, it should be sooner than later,” Kingsbury said, according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. “But I’m not sure the exact timetable yet.”
Bowman threw for a Big 12 freshman record 605 yards in the Red Raiders’ win over Houston on Sept. 15.
Jett Duffey, who relieved Bowman against West Virginia, would likely start Texas Tech’s next game if Bowman remains sidelined. The Red Raiders return to the field on Oct. 11 against Texas Christian before hosting Kansas the following week.
Duffey completed 16 of 27 passes for 172 yards and ran for another 86 on Saturday. He was responsible for two touchdowns (one passing, one rushing) against West Virginia, but also tossed two interceptions.
