It was late in the game and the season for Texas Tech teetered on the brink. The Red Raiders trailed Texas in Austin, 23-20, with just over two minutes left to play. With a 5-6 record, unless the comeback could be completed, there would be no postseason bowl and the future of head coach Kliff Kingsbury could be in question.

That’s when Nik Shimonek, the senior quarterback, took over. He had already thrown one scoring pass earlier in the fourth quarter. Then with just 1:47 remaining, fellow senior wide receiver Cameron Batson hauled in a 16-yard touchdown pass from Shimonek to take the lead, 27-20, and end the scoring. It was Batson’s only reception of the game.

It ended the fourth consecutive non-winning season for Texas, also 6-6, which lost consecutive home games to Texas Tech for the first time in series history.
Batson’s reception is this week’s U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish “Catch of the Week.”

Remember … for the tailgate tent or the pre-game party, U. S. Farm-Raised Catfish is always “the winning catch.”
