After guiding Texas to its first 10-win season in a decade in 2018, head coach Tom Herman received a two-year, $13.25 million contract extension through 2023 on Thursday.
The University of Texas System regents approved the deal, which will pay Herman $6.5 million in 2022 and $6.75 million in the final year.
The Longhorns finished 7-6 in Herman’s first season in 2017 and went 10-4 in 2018, including a trip to the Big 12 championship game and a victory against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day.
Texas ranked No. 9 in the final poll for 2018, its highest year-end finish since a No. 2 ranking in 2009.
The Longhorns open the 2019 season at home against Louisiana Tech on Aug. 31.
