No. 15 Texas can guarantee itself a spot in the Big 12 championship game with a victory over Kansas on Friday, but the Longhorns might be without starting quarterback Sam Ehlinger.
Ehlinger left Saturday’s 24-10 victory over Iowa State with a shoulder injury.

Texas head coach Tom Herman said Ehlinger aggravated his AC joint in his right (throwing) shoulder, which he had hurt earlier this season.

Herman said Ehlinger would not throw on Monday, but he might be able to throw on Tuesday,

An MRI determined Ehlinger did not have more extensive damage to his shoulder.

If Ehlinger cannot play this weekend, Shane Buechele will be the Longhorns’ quarterback.

Even if Ehlinger does not play Friday, Texas (8-3, 6-2 in the Big 12) will be favored to win on the road against Kansas, which is 3-8 overall and 1-7 in Big 12 games.

Ehlinger has completed 65 percent of his throws with 21 touchdown passes and just two interceptions. Buechele has played in two games this season and has completed 68.1 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and one intereption.

A win would guarantee a spot for Texas in the Big 12 championship game, where it would face either Oklahoma or West Virginia.
