Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger aggravated the AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder, coach Tom Herman announced on Monday.

Ehlinger exited the Longhorns’ 24-10 win over Iowa State during the second quarter on Saturday after receiving a hit on his right shoulder following a 13-yard run.

“No broken bones. No separation. No ridiculous amount of damage,” Herman said during a conference call on Monday, per the Dallas Morning News. “But it’s angry. It’s upset. The joint, the shoulder is inflamed.”

Herman said Ehlinger will not throw on Monday, but he is hopeful that will change on Tuesday.

Ehlinger has started all 11 games this season for Texas (8-3), 6-2 Big 12), which concludes its season on Friday against Kansas (3-8, 1-7). A Longhorns’ win over the Jayhawks will clinch them a berth in the Big 12 championship game on Dec. 1 at AT&T Stadium.

Ehlinger initially injured the AC joint on the first series of Texas’ win over Baylor on Oct. 13. The sophomore sat out the rest of that contest but recovered in time to start the Longhorns’ next game on Oct. 27 versus Oklahoma State.

Backup Shane Buechele finished the game against the Cyclones, completing all 10 of his passes for 89 yards and a touchdown.
