Matt Canada signed a three-year contract to become offensive coordinator at Maryland on Tuesday.

Canada has served as offensive coordinator at eight schools: Butler, Northern Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, LSU and Maryland. He signed a three-year contract at $1.5 million per prior to last season at LSU, but was on the job for only one season and left with a $1.7 million buyout.

“Matt has a unique ability to utilize any and all types of personnel and still produce extremely explosive offenses,” Maryland coach DJ Durkin said in a statement. “He’s a very versatile coach that has experience developing impact players at every offensive position. Matt’s had a great deal of success everywhere he’s been, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him here at Maryland.”

Canada replaces Walt Bell, who became Florida State’s offensive coordinator last week.

Maryland also promoted associate head coach/wide receivers coach Chris Beatty to co-offensive coordinator.
