Michigan State starting defensive back Josiah Scott is likely to be sidelined for the next two months because of an undisclosed injury, head coach Mark Dantonio said Monday.

Josiah Scott is a sophomore who started 12 games last season and was named a freshman All-American.

“Josiah had a situation, so he’s out for probably two months,” Dantonio said, according to MLive.com. “But, we’ve got guys that can play. … Two months or less, two months or more — we’ll see.”

Scott recorded two interceptions, 10 passes defensed and 30 tackles last season as a freshman.

Dantonio said junior Josh Butler and true freshman Kalon Gervin are possible replacement for Scott.

The Spartans’ entire secondary returns this season, so they should still be strong on the back end despite the loss of Scott. Michigan State went 10-3 last season and is ranked No. 12 in the preseason coaches poll.
