GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: It’s hardly strength on strength, but Michigan State’s passing defense against Central Michigan’s passing attack will be an interesting one. The Chippewas have made a change at quarterback, going from sophomore Tony Poljan to junior Tommy Lazzaro. However, the production has been paltry as CMU is averaging 138.5 yards a game. On the flip side, Michigan State is 123rd in the country, allowing 323.7 yards a game. However, Michigan State’s pass rush was much better last week as MSU allowed only 264 yards against the Hoosiers.

DRAFT SLANT

–WR Felton Davis has the size and speed to be an NFL receiver and he continues to show it on a weekly basis. He didn’t find the end zone last week but he did have five catches for 79 yards, including a one-hander in the second half that kept a scoring drive alive. The Spartans are deep at wide receiver, but when Brian Lewerke needs a big play, he’s often looking for Davis.
ROSTER REPORT

–LG Kevin Jarvis injured his ankle last week and his status vs. Central Michigan has yet to be determined. The same goes for junior CB Josh Butler (undisclosed injury) and junior WR Darrell Stewart (ankle).

–RB LJ Scott missed the Indiana game with an ankle injury. Dantonio said he is hopeful Scott returns this week.

–CB Josiah Scott is still out with an undisclosed injury suffered in preseason camp but Dantonio said this week he expects the sophomore back at some point this season.
