Minnesota running back Shannon Brooks was arrested early Sunday morning in Minneapolis on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic assault.

Per the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the police were informed of an incident with Brooks’ roommate. Brooks, who is a 22-year-old senior, remained in custody at the Hennepin County jail on Sunday morning.

“Early this morning (Minneapolis) officers responded to the 600 block of 15th Av. SE for the report of a domestic abuse in progress,” Minneapolis police spokeswoman Sgt. Darcy Horn told ESPN. “The call came in at 1:33 a.m. Officers responded and took an adult male, identified as Brooks, Shannon Nicholas, into custody for misdemeanor domestic assault. He was booked in at the Hennepin County Jail.”

Gophers coach P.J. Fleck said the following on his Sunday morning show on WCCO Radio AM 830:

“At this point, with the process unfolding, I’m not able to comment about any aspect of it whatsoever. I wish I could, but I’m not able to do that at this time,” he said.

Brooks has 336 carries for 1,728 yards and 17 touchdowns in his first three years with the program. He is expected to redshirt this season after sustaining a lower leg injury before the season.

Brooks traveled to Columbus for Saturday’s game with Ohio State. He took part in pregame warmups but did not play in the Gophers’ 30-14 defeat.
