Nebraska quarterback Noah Vedral was granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA on Friday.
Vedral, a transfer from Central Florida, will be in uniform for Saturday’s game at Northwestern, the Omaha-World-Herald reported Saturday morning.
A school spokesman confirmed to the newspaper that the NCAA granted the waiver request for Vedral, who had been expected to sit out this season, per transfer rules.
However, when Cornhuskers quarterback Tristan Gebbia announced just before the season that he planned to transfer, the school stepped up its efforts to gain Vedral’s eligibility.
Vedral was a backup under coach Scott Frost at Central Florida last season, but opted to transfer after Frost was hired by Nebraska in the offseason.
The Cornhuskers had three quarterbacks on the roster — Adrian Martinez, Andrew Bunch and Matt Masker. Vedral took Masker’s place on the travel roster for Saturday’s game.
A Nebraska native, Vedral played in eight games as a true freshman in the 2017 season, completing 22 of 29 passes for 276 yards and one touchdown as the backup to McKenzie Milton. Vedral also ran for 77 yards and two touchdowns.
Frost was named the Nebraska coach after Central Florida won the AAC championship game. The Knights went on to defeat Auburn in the Peach Bowl to finish as the nation’s only unbeaten FBS team.
