Nebraska identified the five players previously suspended for its season opener on Saturday against BYU.

Cornhuskers coach Mike Riley announced Thursday that linebacker Michael Rose-Ivey, defensive back Jonathan Rose, offensive lineman Robby Painter, tight end Cethan Carter and defensive end Joe Keels will sit out the first game. Rose-Ivey is a starter and Rose is listed as a co-No. 1 at cornerback.

Riley said last month that the names of the suspended players would not be revealed until kickoff in the opener. All five were suspended for a violation of team rules.

The five suspended players are expected back for Nebraska’s second game of the season the following week at home against South Alabama.

Rose-Ivey set a Nebraska record for tackles by a freshman last season with 66 while playing in 12 games and starting seven. Six of his tackles were for loss.

Rose had 18 tackles in 13 games and Carter is expected to see more playing time this year. He started eight games last year and had six catches for 98 yards and a touchdown.
