Former Ohio State assistant football coach Zach Smith was arrested on Thursday afternoon at an elementary school in Ohio, according to multiple reports.

Smith reportedly violated a civil protection order when he tried to pick up his children from the school.

Smith was fired by Ohio State in July after ex-wife Courtney Smith sought a court order for protection against him, which led to media reports of other alleged domestic-violence incidents involving the coach.

Zach Smith pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in October and had a criminal trespassing charge dropped in proceedings that stemmed from an alleged incident with his former wife earlier in 2018. He tweeted afterward that he and his ex-wife also agreed to a mutual protection order that runs through Oct. 10, 2021.

According to Courtney Smith’s attorney, Zach Smith was not supposed to pick up the children until after 6 and at a different location. Courtney Smith was at the school at the time and was kept away from her ex-husband.

Her lawyer also disputed that the order keeping Zach and Courtney Smith was “mutual,” despite claims by the former coach’s attorney.

“Contrary to statements made by Mr. Smith’s attorney as has been reported, Mr. Smith agreed to a 3-year Consent Agreement Domestic Violence Civil Protection Order to stay away from his ex-wife,” Julia L. Leveridge said in a statement. “This Order is to protect Courtney Smith, and she did not agree to any mutual stay-away order.”
