PLAYERS TO WATCH

–QB Artur Sitkowski was an early arrival for 2018, taking part in spring drills and then winning the starting job from Gio Rescigno. He is the first true freshman to open the season at quarterback for the Scarlet Knights since 2001 — but he has had a rough ride the past few weeks and could lose that starting job at any moment.

–WLB Trevor Morris, who led the Knights with 118 tackles last year, had a strong game in the blowout loss at Ohio State. He rang up 11 tackles, 10 solo, and notched a sack. At Kansas, Morris was in on six tackles, three of them solo, 0.5 for loss. He also had a pass breakup and quarterback hit.

–RB Raheem Blackshear leads Rutgers with 195 yards on the ground, scoring one touchdown. He netted 102 yards on 19 carries in the loss at Kansas. It was his second career 100-yard rushing game.

–TE Jerome Washington is a member of the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List. The award is presented annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end. He has three catches for 44 yards in the first two games of the season, and three more grabs — for 41 yards, at Kansas.

SERIES HISTORY: Rutgers leads Buffalo 5-1, going 3-1 in Piscataway. This is the first meeting since 2007 when then-No. 16 Rutgers routed Buffalo 38-3.

QUOTE TO NOTE: “You never want to lose like that. It’s a learning lesson, I guess. Correct our mistakes from the game before next week. Our opponents are going to try to do what Kansas did. We have to be better next week. It’s football, games like these happen. We just have to make sure we are ready for next week.” — Senior LB Deonte Roberts after the loss at Kansas.
