With a 4-0 record and a spot in the national rankings, few teams have had a better first month of the season than Rutgers and first-year head coach Kyle Flood.

Coming off one of two bye weeks this season, the Scarlet Knights spent the extra time off giving younger players more reps and getting healthy. They also tried to not get too caught up in what’s happened so far, since there’s still two-thirds of the season yet to play.

But it had to be hard for the team and its fans not to spend a little time dreaming about what might lie ahead if the Scarlet Knights take care of business on the field.

The next four games are home dates against Connecticut and Syracuse, a trip to Temple, and a nonconference home game against Kent State. The three Big East schools have had tough times in nonconference play, and though Kent State is one of the top teams in the MAC the Scarlet Knights will likely be favored all four times.

Of course, the Scarlet Knights will also a game that others have circled on the calendar. That’s what being a Top 25 team does. And the last time Rutgers was in position to assert itself in the Big East, Connecticut overwhelmed them last November, knocking the Scarlet Knights out of the conference race.

So if nothing else, there’s no reason to those Huskies lightly in the rematch this week.
