Former Penn State wide receiver Devon Smith has transferred to Marshall and has been cleared to begin practice with the Thundering Herd, ESPN.com reported.

Smith left Penn State in June for personal reasons.

Smith, who is eligible to play this season because of the NCAA penalties against Penn State, is the second Penn State player to transfer to Marshall, joining cornerback Derrick Thomas.

Smith was projected to be a starter at Penn State in 2012 after having 25 receptions for 402 yards last season.

Smith missed much of the spring with a foot injury, and he was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana on March 14.
