–QB Brandon Wimbush has the ability to beat Ball State with his feet or with his arm. Last week against Michigan, he passed for 170 yards and a touchdown while running for a team-high 59 yards, and his talent could flummox Ball State.

–WR Chris Finke will try to maintain his hot start to the season after pulling down a 43-yard touchdown pass against Michigan. Finke has three career touchdowns but has an opportunity to post big numbers this season.

–DE Khalid Kareem is officially on the radar of Fighting Irish fans. He had a career-high eight tackles (six solo), including 1.5 tackles for loss, in his first start for the program. Can he keep it up against the Cardinals?

–LB Asmar Bilal also enjoyed a breakout starting debut and will try to build upon his performance against Ball State. Against Michigan, Bilal played the “rover” linebacker position and had four tackles, one tackle for a loss and a quarterback hurry.

SERIES HISTORY: First meeting.

QUOTE TO NOTE: “I think (Ball State coach Mike Neu) is taking on his personality of their football team. They got off to a great start last week. We have this game set up with Ball State when Bill Scholl, a former athletic director here at Notre Dame was there. It’s one of those games where you try to reward somebody that was part of Notre Dame. We did that with Chuck Martin with Miami of Ohio last year. We’re looking forward to it. An Indiana school that has a lot of players from the state. I’m sure it will be exciting for everybody.” — Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly
