Alvin Davis – Noteworthy
SEPT 17 MAC EAST DIVISION DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Akron DB Alvin Davis…Akron junior defensive back Alvin Davis (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) had a big night in Akron’s stunning 39-34 victory at Northwestern on Saturday night with two interceptions returned for touchdowns and 10 tackles. In the third quarter Davis had his first interception and he returned it 97 yards for a touchdown to bring the Zips within two points, 21-19. Davis’ 97-yard interception tied for second-longest in program history (Bill Darulis, 97-yard INT return vs. Mount Union, 1932). In the fourth quarter, Davis had his second interception with a 50-yard return for a touchdown to give Akron a 39-28 lead with 7:24 left in the fourth quarter. It was the first multi-interception and multi-touchdown game of his collegiate career. Davis finished the game with 10 tackles, two interceptions for 147 return yards, and two touchdowns. – MAC Football
Nick Gasser – Noteworthy
SEPT 10 MAC EAST DIVISION SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Akron K/P Nick Gasser…Akron senior kicker and punter Nick Gasser (Liberty Township, Ohio) converted two field goals and four extra points for a total of 10 points in a 41-7 win over Morgan State. His field goals were from 24 yards and 30 yards. He also had one punt for 47 yards which landed within the 20. – MAC Football

SEPT 24 MAC EAST DIVISION SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Akron K/P Nick Gasser…Akron senior kicker and punter Nick Gasser (Liberty Township, Ohio) converted two field goals of over 45 yards in a 26-13 loss at Iowa State. Gasser nailed a 45-yard field goal in the second quarter to tie the game at 10-10, which tied his career long. In the third quarter, Gasser re-set his career high with a 49-yard field goal to pull Akron within four, 17-13. Gasser also punted six times for 226 yards (37.7 average). He also connected on the PAT after Akron’s touchdown, finishing with seven points on the day. – MAC Football
