Oregon halts Arizona’s 49-game home winning streak

TUCSON, Ariz. — Dillon Brooks scored 24 points and reserve Dwayne Benjamin had 15 as No. 23 Oregon ended No. 18 Arizona’s 49-game homecourt winning streak with a 83-75 Pac-12 victory at McKale Center on Thursday.

Brooks had 10 points in the final 10 minutes as the Ducks (17-4, 6-2) pulled away.

The Wildcats’ Parker Jackson-Cartwright hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 64 with 7:28 remaining, but Oregon scored the next eight points to regain a lead it never lost.

Brooks’ layup with 1:01 remaining gave the Ducks an 80-69 lead.

Ryan Anderson had 22 points and Gabe York scorfed 18 for Arizona (16-5, 4-4), which led by 13 in the first half.

Oregon ended the first half on a 13-7 run, and Tyler Dorsey’s layup on an inbounds play in the final second cut the Wildcats’ lead to 42-41 at the break.

No. 8 Maryland 74, No. 3 Iowa 68

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Robert Carter, Jr. had 17 points before fouling out and Rasheed Sulaimon also scored 17 with several key free throws down the stretch as the Terrapins remained undefeated at home while handing the Hawkeyes their first Big Ten loss.

Maryland (18-3, 7-2 Big Ten) also remained undefeated in conference play over the past two seasons. Peter Jok scored 14 points for Iowa (16-4, 7-1), which had won its first seven Big Ten games by an average of nearly 12 points.

Jake Layman (11 points) scored to give the Terrapins a 62-58 lead with 3:09 to go. Freshman Diamond Stone had a dunk with 1:24 left to make it 64-60 and Jared Nickens scored on a layup to put Maryland on top 66-60 with 1:09 left.

Sulaimon made one free throw with 49.7 seconds to make it 67-62 and Stone made one with 39.5 seconds left to extend the advantage to 68-62. After the Hawkeyes had a shot blocked, Sulaimon made a free throw with 25.5 seconds left to make it 69-62.

No. 12 Michigan State 76, Northwestern 45

EVANSTON, Ill. — Denzel Valentine scored 19 points while freshman Matt McQuaid added 17 to lead the Spartans to their seventh straight victory over the Wildcats.

Valentine and McQuaid combined for 10 3 point field goals while Michigan State (18-4, 5-4 Big Ten) hit 16 of 26 on the way to its second straight victory.

Bryant McIntosh scored 14 points and Aaron Falzon added 11 for Northwestern (15-7, 3-6), which shot 20.7 percent from the field and went 4 of 23 on 3 point tries as a losing streak reached four, including three straight to ranked teams.

Syracuse 81, No. 25 Notre Dame 66

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Playing without injured leading scorer Demetrius Jackson, the Fighting Irish were no match for the Orange’s three-headed backcourt monster of Trevor Cooney, Michael Gbinije and freshman Malachi Richardson.

Cooney (22), Gbinije (15) and Richardson (15) combined for 52 points as Syracuse thumped Notre Dame before 22,861 fans at the Carrier Dome.

Cooney scored 15 of his points in the first half as the Orange (14-8, 4-5ACC) built a 17-point lead.

V.J. Beachem led the Fighting Irish (14-6, 5-3) with 22 points. Jackson suffered a right hamstring injury in Notre Dame’s previous game against Boston College on Saturday and is averaging 16.6 points and a team-high 5.3 assists
