GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: The Stanford running attack needs to dominate the storyline of this game — not quarterback Gardner Minshew and coach Mike Leach’s passing attack — and that may depend on the health of Bryce Love. However, fellow senior Cameron Scarlett averaged 6 yards per carry at Arizona State, so some depth exists for Stanford. Washington State is coming off a win over Oregon in which the Cougars held the Ducks to a paltry 58 rushing yards.

DRAFT SLANT

–RB Bryce Love managed just 11 carries for 21 yards in the win over Arizona State after a bye week. Previous to that, he missed the Utah game due to an ankle injury. Stanford coach David Shaw complimented Love for his progress once he got loose, but it was never enough to approach a vintage “Love game” for the Cardinal. Love began the season with a late first-round grade from NFLDraftScout.com, but his ability to stay on the field will be even further questions by scouts after this season.

ROSTER REPORT:

–RB Bryce Love is questionable for the Washington State game with an ankle injury.

–WR Connor Wedington is out indefinitely with an undisclosed injury.

–S Ben Edwards is out indefinitely with an undisclosed injury.

–LB Joey Alfieri is questionable for the Washington State game with an undisclosed injury.

–QB K.J. Costello has a hand injury but is probable for the Washington State game.

–OL Nate Hertig is questionable for the Washington State game with an undisclosed injury.

–OL Foster Sarell is out indefinitely with a leg injury.
