PLAYERS TO WATCH

–RB Bryce Love’s health is paramount if Stanford wants to end the season on a high note and beat teams like Washington and Washington State. Love missed the Utah loss with an injury, and even after a bye week was limited against Arizona State — with 11 carries for 21 yards. Love is coming into the WSU game against a defense that allowed only 58 yards to Oregon’s rushing attack.

–CB Paulson Adebo, who has stepped up alongside veteran cornerback Alijah Holder this season, had an interception of Arizona State quarterback Manny Wilkins last season. Wilkins had just one interception before the loss to Stanford. Adebo also has 14 pass deflections this season, which could help in disrupting the flow of WSU’s Gardner Minshew II (four touchdowns against Oregon).

–RB Cameron Scarlett, a senior, plays a crucial role for the Cardinal when Bryce Love is not 100 percent. Scarlett had nine carries for 54 yards and a touchdown against Arizona State, helping Stanford plug away for 127 rushing yards on 43 carries.

–WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside continues to be Stanford’s top option when it needs a touchdown — and he had seven catches for 91 yards and a score against Arizona State. Arcega-Whiteside, at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, has 37 catches for 632 yards and nine touchdowns this season, pushing his career totals to 1,792 yards and 23 TDs.

SERIES HISTORY: Stanford leads the all-time series 40-27-1, but Washington State has won the past two matchups.

QUOTE TO NOTE: “We could have played better, obviously, but for us, this is the way we needed to win this football game.” — Stanford coach David Shaw, after his team grinded out a 20-13 win at Arizona State, milking the clock late and squeezing the opportunities away from the opposition’s offense.
