Wilton Speight – Noteworthy
Wilton Speight was all smiles walking into Schembechler Hall on Friday afternoon. The former Michigan football quarterback was back in Ann Arbor for the Wolverines’ Pro Day. After a career at U-M that included time as the starting QB, Speight transferred to UCLA before the 2018 season. Earlier this offseason, when Michigan receiver Grant Perry and tight end Zach Gentry reached out to Speight asking about his NFL draft preparation plans. Since none of the Wolverines’ quarterbacks were graduating, Perry and Gentry knew they wouldn’t have a quarterback readily available to throw to them for their Pro Day workouts.

Without Speight, they would have had to rely on a coach or a scout to throw to them. So they asked Speight to make his return. Then, after a few conversations with Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, it was decided. “It felt a little weird at first, since I hadn’t been back here since I graduated,” Speight said. “But a week out from flying back here, I started to get really excited and, you know, to be able to see my brother and my parents will be in town and just all the guys in the locker room that was so special to me. So it was a lot of fun. A good week.” – Detroit Free Press
