Utah coach Kyle Whittingham was given a two-year contract extension through 2020 ahead of Wednesday’s national signing day for high school recruits, the school announced Friday.

Whittingham, whose base salary will increase $700,000 to $3.3 million per year, has a 95-46 record since he took over in 2005. The Utes finished with a 10-3 record in 2015 after reaching No. 3 in the national rankings with a 6-0 start and contending for a Pac-12 title.

“I am grateful for the support and commitment shown by Chris Hill and President (David) Pershing with this contract extension,” Whittingham said. “It gives further stability to our football program and what we are trying to accomplish. We are excited about the future here at Utah and the recruiting class we will sign next Wednesday.”

Whittingham’s victory total at Utah is second in school history, trailing only Ike Armstrong’s 141 wins from 1925 to 1949. The Utes have an 8-1 bowl record under Whittingham and four Top 25 finishes in 11 seasons.

“We are excited about the contract extension for Coach Whittingham and look forward to continued success in the Pac-12 Conference under his leadership,” Utah athletic director Chris Hill said.
