Safety Jalen Thompson was ruled ineligible for his senior season at Washington State and will enter the NFL supplemental draft, the university announced on Saturday.
The school statement said he lost “his final year of eligibility due to a violation of NCAA rules.”
The supplemental draft will be held in July.
Thompson, a two-time All-Pac-12 selection — second team in 2017, honorable mention last year — is expected to be chosen in the supplemental draft, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said. Thompson has hired an agent.
Thompson issued a statement of his own on social media.
“I want to take a moment to thank my friends, family, Washington State teammates, coaches, staff and most of all Cougar fans and inform them that I will not be returning to Washington State for this upcoming season,” Thompson wrote. “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity the coaches provided me at Washington State and wish my teammates nothing but the best for this upcoming season. I will always be a cougar and so appreciative of the tremendous fan support we always enjoyed!”
Thompson had 191 career tackles (11.5 for loss) and six interceptions in 39 games with the Cougars.
