GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: Cal has endured tumult at quarterback throughout the season, with the most recent move being Chase Garbers — the primary quarterback in Weeks 2 and 3 — returning behind center in Week 8. Brandon McIlwain’s seven interceptions in the previous three games necessitated the change.

Washington’s ability to put the onus on the Cal passing game could be key. Garbers was able to settle in and throw three touchdowns against Oregon State, as the Golden Bears rushing attack produced 7.1 yards per carry. Should Washington limit Cal on the ground early — as was the case in the Bears’ turnover-plagued losses the previous two weeks against Arizona and UCLA — the Huskies should see more opportunities for takeaways.

DRAFT SLANT

–DT Greg Gaines, ranked No. 11 among senior defensive tackles per NFLDraftScout.com, has performed well over the past two weeks. His 12 tackles in Washington’s last two outings mark a career-best over a two-game stretch.

ROSTER REPORT:

–RB Myles Gaskin is expected this week after missing Week 8 due to a shoulder injury. Gaskin needs 133 yards to pass Marcus Allen as the Pac-12’s fifth-leading career rusher.

–QB Jake Browning will pass Derek Anderson for seventh all-time among Pac-12 quarterbacks for passing yards in a career with another 245 yards. Browning needs 304 to pass Connor Halliday for sixth place.

–LB Amandre Williams announced his transfer from the program on Friday.
