Four-star quarterback Chandler Morris has committed to play for his father at Arkansas.
The son of Razorbacks head coach Chad Morris, he had offers from several top programs, including Clemson, Oklahoma and Auburn.
The younger Morris is ranked as the No. 10 dual-threat quarterback prospect in the Class of 2020 by the 247Sports composite.
This fall, he will attempt to lead Highland Park in Dallas, near where his father used to coach at SMU, to its fourth straight state title. Last season, he threw for 4,010 yards and 46 touchdowns with six interceptions and scored 20 times on the ground as he rushed for 647 yards.
Morris (5-11, 172 pounds) and his father will have something to celebrate this Father’s Day weekend. He said his dad was happy when he told him of his commitment a few months ago. He made his decision public on Friday.
“He gave me a big hug; he was excited,” Morris said, per 247Sports. “We understand that we have got a lot of work to do together. There are going to be some things that are going to be weird about it, but it is going to be a really cool story and a lot of fun and a lot of success.”
He said he strongly considered other programs and wasn’t guaranteed to Arkansas from the start.
“It was the most difficult decision that I have had to make and as an 18-year-old it kind of seems unfair that you have to make this decision at this young of an age,” Morris said. “But it was a tough decision and I had to lay out the pros and cons and I noticed that I had more pros than I had cons.”
