GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: LB Deshaun Davis looks to have the responsibility of keeping Mississippi State QB Nick Fitzgerald from breaking out with big plays. Fitzgerald has gotten off to a slow start after serving a one-game suspension in the opener and has completed only 49.1 percent of his passes, but he is averaging a team-best 79.8 yards a game rushing. Davis led the Tigers with 10 tackles in last year’s win over the Bulldogs and Fitzgerald rushed for only 56 yards and passed for only 157 in going 13-of-33 with two interceptions.

DRAFT SLANT

–QB Jarrett Stidham was sacked three times but still managed to go 19-of-33 passing for 245 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Southern Mississippi. He called the pass protection issues “growing pains.” “We’re going to have to find a way to get better,” he said. “We just wanted to come out and execute. I thought we did some things really well and some things that we’ve obviously got to fix.”

ROSTER REPORT:

–RB JaTarvious Whitlow injured a shoulder against Southern Mississippi, and that puts his status for this Saturday in doubt.

–LT Prince Tega Wanogho left the Southern Mississippi game with an apparent lower body injury and did not return. A decision will be made later on his availability.

–RT Jack Driscoll sustained a lower body injury and is day-to-day.
