Stidham elects to go pro

Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham announced his intentions to enter the NFL Draft Tuesday afternoon via Twitter.

Stidham led the Tigers to the SEC West title as a sophomore and earned the league’s Newcomer of the Year Award following the 2017 campaign. He completed 66 percent of his passes (246 of 370) for 3,158 yards and 18 touchdowns, with only six interceptions, his first year as a starter after sitting out a year as a Baylor transfer. Stidham, who doubles as a good student, also added 153 rushing on the ground and four TDs.

Stidham’s production dipped this past season operating behind a rebuilt offensive line. The junior ended his final season on the Plains by completing 60 percent of his passes for 2,421 yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions.  He chipped in three rushing scores, but ended the year with negative-five rushing yards.

Stidham, 6-3, 215-pounds, is projected to be a mid-round selection in this year’s NFL Draft.

Bryant chooses Missouri

Former Clemson starting quarterback Kelly Bryant announced Tuesday night via Twitter that he intended to transfer to Missouri.

The Tigers, who just capped an 8-4 season be winning their last four games, will be in need of a starting quarterback due to the impending departure of star Drew Lock.

Bryant, a talented dual-threat, will certainly be in line to be that guy after going 16-2 as a starter for Clemson. In 2017, as a junior, he completed 262 of 398 passes (65.8 percent) for 2,802 yards, 13 TDs and eight interceptions and led the Tigers to the College Football Playoff. He also added 665 yards rushing and 11 scores.

Bryant started four games in 2018 at Clemson. He abruptly left the team after head coach Dabo Swinney got a look at highly-touted true freshman Trevor Lawrence in a 49-21 rout of Georgia Tech.  Lawrence, who has unique size (6-6, 215) and ability, completed 13 of 18 passes for 176 yards and four scores — with one pick — in the victory over the Yellow Jackets.

Bryant completed 35 of 53 passes for 456 yards and two touchdowns in 2018. He had 30 carries for 144 yards and two scores.
