Ole Miss trailed Kentucky by four points in Lexington, 71 yards from the end zone with just 2:14 left in the game. The Rebels had tied the game, 27-27, late in the third quarter on a 58-yard pass-and-run from quarterback Jordan Ta’amu to wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, but the Wildcats had regained the lead at 34-30 and time was running out.
Thirteen plays later, it was Ta’amu to Metcalf again. With only five seconds remaining, the 6-4, 224-pound sophomore made a leaping, two-handed grab in the end zone of another strike from the junior college transfer quarterback, making the reception with a defender draped on him, giving the visitors a dramatic 37-34 win. For the game, he caught five passes for 83 yards and the two scores.
Metcalf’s game-winning reception is this week’s U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish “Catch of the Week.”
